The February 28, 2000 Federal Register announced the dates and locations for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (BATF) public hearings on the use of health claims and other health-related statements in the labeling and advertising of alcoholic beverages. The deadline to submit letters for persons wishing to make oral comments at the hearings is April 7, 2000. We strongly encourage public health officials, researchers, law enforcement personnel, prevention professionals, and members of the general public to respond, and recruit others to respond, to the BATF notice. The public hearings are being held in the following cities:

Comments must contain your name, mailing address, email address, reference notice 892, and be legible and not more than three pages in length when printed. Requests to testify and written comments may also be submitted by fax to (202) 927-8602. Fax comments must be legible, reference notice 892, contain a legible written signature, and be no more than three pages long. Individuals unable to attend the public hearings may submit written or email comments on or until September 29, 2000.
