Bravo Bravissimo!

Looking for a great-tasting frozen pizza that won’t choke off the blood flow to your heart?

Cheeseless Bravissimo! pizzas have so much oomph that you’ll never miss the artery-busting mozzarella.

The Roasted Vegetable Pizza is topped with onions, red and yellow peppers, eggplant, roasted garlic, and (spicy but not too hot) poblano peppers. Half a pizza has just 350 calories and four grams of fat, none of it saturated. (The box says a nine-inch pie feeds three, but two’s more like it.)

Half a Spicy Thai Vegetable Pizza has a tad more fat. But the carrots, snow peas, peppers, roasted garlic, and onions (over a thick peanutty sauce) are enough to give it about half a day’s vitamins A and C. And the sodium in either pizza is a half to a third what you’d find in most of its frozen brethren.

If your pizza’s not pizza unless it has cheese, try Bravissimo! Reduced Fat Cheese Pizza or Reduced Fat Spinach-Mushroom with Roasted Garlic Pizza. Half of either will cost you just a quarter of a day’s saturated fat. When you’re talking cheese, that’s about as good as it gets.

No Make

Jell-O No Bake Peanut Butter Cup Dessert sure takes the cake.

It’s got two ingredients guaranteed to set off your heart monitor. Palm kernel oil is 80 percent saturated...before it’s hydrogenated. And coconut oil is 85 percent saturated. Compare that to lard (40 percent) and butterfat (60 percent).

One serving of the dessert swipes half your day’s sat fat allowance, and that doesn’t even include the cholesterol-raising trans fat in the hydrogenated oils. Nearly seven teaspoons of sugar, 23 grams of fat, and 380 calories round out a dessert fit for a future weight loss clinic applicant.

To its credit, Jell-O does make a No Bake that’s less damaging. A serving of the Reduced Fat Strawberry Swirl Cheesecake also has nearly seven teaspoons of sugar, but the calories are down to 250 and the fat to six grams (two of them saturated). It’s not health food, but at least it’s not Elmer’s Glue for arteries.

"No Bake one tonight," is Jell-O’s slogan. How about "No Make one any night?"
