Tell Congress Not to Deregulate Swine Slaughter

USDA plans to shift much of the responsibility for food safety inspections in hog plants to the pork industry as early as May

It’s happening again. The Trump Administration is deregulating another federal safety program, and this time it’s affecting our food supply. Last week, the Washington Post broke a story on the USDA's plans to shift much of the responsibility for food safety inspections in hog plants to the pork industry as early as May.

CSPI is encouraging members of Congress to block funding to the modernization effort so USDA cannot move forward unless it fixes its broken approach and creates a system that will truly support food safety. Act now: email your senators and representatives, and tell them to make food safety a priority by putting the brakes on this misguided program.
