How is the American diet doing? Let’s just say it’s not about to crack the honor roll.

For starters, we eat too much. The average American consumes about 2,500 calories a day. That’s up about 500 calories since the 1970s before the obesity epidemic took off.

Fun fact:

What was the biggest challenge facing the producers of “Finding Woodstock,” a 2009 movie about the legendary concert in upstate New York in 1969?  Answer: Recruiting young adult extras who were skinny like the kids 40 years earlier, according to producer and screenwriter James Schamus.  Boy, times have really changed.

But it’s not just how much we eat, but what we eat that also matters.

So, how much do you know about this country’s consumption of meat, vegetables, fats, and sugar?
