“Smoked” almonds sold in supermarkets haven’t really been smoked like, say, smoked salmon or Applewood smoked bacon. The nuts get their taste from a dose of natural smoke flavor. That comes close enough to make smoked almonds a perfect plant-based substitute for bacon’s smoky flavor in salads like this Smoked Almond Caesar or in grain bowls, cooked vegetables (like broccoli or green beans), or breading for chicken.
