Bypassing editorial board, science journal’s publisher replaces editor, withdraws paper
Statement of CSPI President Michael F. Jacobson
Taylor & Francis’s actions undermine the credibility and independence of the International Journal of Occupational and Environmental Health. As someone who has published articles in that journal, I hope that the publisher carefully considers the editorial board’s plea and reverses its decision to replace the long-time public-health-oriented editor with someone who serves as a corporate consultant. In the spirit of the March for Science, the publisher, Taylor & Francis, should leave decisions on the membership of journals’ editorial boards, the appointment of the Editor-in-Chief, and whether to publish—or retract—articles to the journals’ independent editorial board of scientists.
